Treatment For Alcohol Poisoning

!: Treatment For Alcohol Poisoning

Alcohol poisoning needs immediate medical attention to make sure that the vital system of the body remains balanced and not impaired dangerously. Some think that the treatment is as easy as sleeping the alcohol off, but the treatment for alcohol poisoning is a bigger deal than that.

Vomiting is the easiest treatment for alcohol poisoning. When intoxication happens, the risk of choking on your own vomit is very high especially when the person is unconscious. So it is advisable to turn an unconscious person to lie sideways because this is the surest and safest position to avoid choking and ensure open airways. There are many cases of intoxication leading to death for this very reason, they are left unattended and choked during vomiting and an airway becomes clogged.

Hypothermia is when alcohol lowers the temperature of the body due to constriction of the blood vessels. Excessive levels of alcohol intake can induce this dangerous condition. Usually drunks are covered in sweat or vomit and are left lying down wet. This is a dangerous state of the body and someone can die if warned up too quickly. In emergency rooms, the treatment to alcohol poisoning is to apply warm blankets and intravenous. Giving of intravenous fluid as the treatment for alcohol poisoning can also help to rehydrate the body of possible fluid loss due to excessive sweating and vomiting. The fluid of choice is usually glucose; not only for warming and to rehydrate the body, but also to bring up the glucose level to a safe and acceptable level.

Reduced Consciousness and Confusion: Alcohol content is usually the reason for a lower oxygen level thus resulting to a weird bizarre behaviour and confusion for other people. Air management and maximizing air to reduce consciousness are the quickest treatment of alcohol poisoning. Visual observations as well as medical intervention are needed to ensure the safety of the person.

This experience makes you feel sick and their integrity and dignity can also be affected. Some people do not remember what happened when they were intoxicated and often shame themselves after the fact. Drinking should be fun and enjoyable, but excessive drinking takes the fun out of a happy occasion and risks you and your health to a permanent danger. Always remember the treatment to alcohol poisoning to know what to do the next time you encounter someone with the same problem.

People should always put in mind the quickest treatment for alcohol poisoning; know their alcohol limit and stop when they are still ahead. A wild night of confusion and drunkenness is not worth the shame and hangover you'll feel the next day.

The one-of-a-kind exploration of effective alcohol prevention and treatment for Latinos-now and for the future!

By the year 2020, the Latino population in the United States will increase to 60 million, making up 18 percent of all residents. Latinos and Alcohol Use/Abuse Revisited: Advances and Challenges for Prevention and Treatment Programs brings into sharp focus how present and future demographic shifts in Latino population are being felt in alcohol programs across the United States. Case studies and in-depth research clearly illustrate the practical steps various culturally competent programs recommend to effectively deal with alcohol use, prevention, and treatment for Latinos.

Alcohol abuse, though rampant in Latino populations, has not received the attention that other types of drug abuse has received, even though the death rates, health problems, and financial costs from alcohol are staggering. Latinos and Alcohol Use/Abuse Revisited presents respected authorities tackling the tough questions about demographics, culturally competent research, and effective prevention and treatment programs. The book provides an up-to-date socio-demographic foundation, then builds upon current research and information to present a clear picture of the needs of various Latino populations for alcohol abuse programs now and in the future.

Latinos and Alcohol Use/Abuse Revisited discusses:

  • the Latino demographic profile—an overview
  • patterns of need and treatment among Mexican-origin adults in central California
  • alcohol abuse among Dominican-Americans
  • the onset of alcohol and other drug use among gang members
  • incarcerated Latinas, alcohol, and other drug abuse
  • rural Latino grandparents raising grandchildren of substance abusing parents
  • alcohol use among Puerto Rican active injecting drug users
  • alcohol and other drug abuse prevention for high-risk youth
  • a case study of a Puerto Rican community in Massachusetts
  • detailed recommendations for prevention and treatment
Latinos and Alcohol Use/Abuse Revisited is a detailed examination of prevention and treatment programs for Latinos, invaluable for substance abuse professionals, social workers, practitioners, and professionals in charge of alcohol prevention and treatment programs.

Teenage Alcoholism Warning Signs and Treatments

!: Teenage Alcoholism Warning Signs and Treatments

The growth and development of human beings is very complicated. Several changes of the body are expected but not everyone progresses in the same way as some humans may have faster development than others. In teenagers, the development of curiosity and exploration continues to be a big problem to parents. Teenage kids with these traits would like to explore anything that they know little about. These kids nowadays are engaging in multiple sex partners with the same age as them, doing drugs, and drinking alcohol.

Among all these exploration that kids do, they are more prone to be addicted to alcohol because it is easier to acquire than drugs or sex. In the United Stated, half of the junior high and the senior high school students drink alcohol on a monthly basis. This is mostly because many house parties occur everywhere and it is in these parties that the teenagers can socialize. Nearly 8% of these teens say they drink at least five or more alcoholic drinks in a row.

Teen alcoholism is a great problem that the society is facing today. It has been known that the earlier a person can learn drinking, the higher the chances of them being addicted to it. When they get addicted at an early age and they bring it up until they graduate, they may never get to grow out of such addiction and it will get worst every year. Kids who take in alcohol also have poor grades in school because alcohol can decreases a person's attention span. Not only this, but when these kids take in alcohol, they get dehydrated a lot and if they are dehydrated, their brain cell dehydrate as well and it will definitely lead to cell death to some extent. Brain atrophy may also occur thus the cognitive and decision making capacity of these teenagers become impaired. Such impairment may lead to drunk driving, date rapes, bar fights, and eventually leading to drug addiction as well. Alcoholism can also result to a lot of sexual intercourse. They practice unprotected sex and eventually results in sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy. Usually, teen alcoholism is a reflection of the problems that they have at home. Sometimes, excessive alcohol intake is a call for help by these kids as they consider this act as a coping mechanism with all the peer pressure they experience in school.

The only way to solve this problem is to have early treatment and intervention. Kids who are suspected to have poor grades in school and reveal poor interpersonal skills should be talked to therapeutically about their lives in school and at home. If ever a teenage student is known to be alcoholic, he or she should be referred to a physician for medication treatments and some other therapeutic interventions. Confidentiality should be strictly maintained during the process. Kids should not be ashamed about their problems as several people are available in school and these people can help them deal with their problems. A visit to the guidance counselor or the nurse could be done if ever a student shows ineffective coping.
